Enhance.MD is not the loudest name in the GLP-1 telehealth space, but it perhaps has the most interesting model.
The most interesting part of this model is how they charge you an initial fee for your first month’s service, which is a flat monthly cost from your first use until you reach a maximum dose on a medication.
Then they require lab work to be completed before they will prescribe the medication. They also bundle all the costs (labs, membership, etc.) together into one number.
Are you ready to learn more about what Enhance.MD has to offer?
What Is Enhance.MD and How Does It Work?
Enhance.MD is currently operating as a telehealth service in all 50 states and Washington DC to offer GLP-1 weight loss programs.
The company offers medical services via virtual means and through its two affiliated medical practice locations: Enhance Wellness PC and iThriveMD PC. Those are the places where Enhance MD employs all of the providers (nurse practitioners and doctors) who then provide the care to patients.
Patients need to initially submit their information on an online intake form. After submitting the form, they need to have a blood test taken at a local Quest Diagnostics laboratory testing center. The patient will then receive lab results from Quest Diagnostics one to two business days later and those lab results will be posted on the patient’s dashboard.
After receiving their lab results, a patient will schedule a one-to-one video consult with a board certified provider. During that time the provider will view the patient’s lab results, go over the patient’s goals and decide if a GLP-1 prescription is suitable.
That’s when you get your money back, meaning that if the doctor determines that a prescription isn’t right for you, you’ll get a full refund for the first month. That’s one reason why Enhance has a very good “trust factor,” because most companies will charge a fee just to meet you!
GLP-1 Product Offerings
The main levels of GLP-1 products at Enhance.MD are categorized by name (or Tier) as Core, Advance and Elite.
The compound used in Core is semaglutide; it’s an option for those of you who are wanting to be on a stable and less dramatic weight loss/therapeutic program.
The product used in Advance is compound tirzepatide; it will activate two receptors (GLP-1 & GIP) and it’s best suited for people who have more severe hunger issues or who were otherwise unable to lose enough weight using single receptor drugs.
In Elite, Enhance.MD adds even more compounds than tirzepatide, though third-party independent reviewers have noted that the clinical rationale for the Elite tier’s added ingredients is not as clearly documented as the Core and Advanced offerings.
Pricing
Semaglutide, at enhanced doses at least, costs patients a flat rate of $49 for the first month and then $249/month after for the Core tier under a month-to-month payment schedule, but this will reduce to around $212/month if they commit to a year-long payment period.
The Advanced model increases the cost to $280 a month and the Elite model to $322 a month.
The price for tirzepatide is slightly higher than that for semaglutide, but it also follows the same flat pricing method. Patients are eligible for discounts of 10% to 15% when they pay quarterly, biannually, or annually rather than going with the monthly rate.
Most importantly, the price does not go up as the dose increases. This means when a patient goes from a lower “starter” dose to the maximum dose that’s needed to maintain them on medication (also known as the “maintenance” dose), their price will remain the same.
Pharmacy Sourcing: 503A Partners
Enhance.MD works with a number of vetted 503A compounding pharmacies, as well as two other facilities, Vios Compounding Pharmacy and TruMeds Rx; A Fairfax Va based compounding pharmacy that’s licensed to practice in 48 states and services over 85,000 patients.
Both operate according to U.S.P. 797 Sterile Compounding Standards. Enhance.Md will not publicly name a single exclusive pharmacy partner for their patients. Therefore, patients can’t audit the independent regulatory history of one specific facility.
As of now there are no FDA Form 483s against either of the named partner pharmacies.
Cold-Chain Shipping
Enhance.MD packages their products using an insulation package to protect from extreme temperatures. The company does not provide information about maintaining a specific temperature range throughout shipment; there is also no evidence that the company uses Temp-Smart or other cold chain medical grade packaging.
For patients who are located in warm climate states that will be receiving shipments during the hottest part of the year, or for patients who have confirmed the shipping process through communication with their care team prior to the next scheduled refills, using Temp-Smart may help make sure that medications arrive at the patient’s home without damage.
Titration Support vs. Auto-Ship
Flat rate pricing creates an incentive for physicians to take their time before raising a patient’s medication dosage level.
Since Enhance.MD receives the same payment regardless of whether the physician has prescribed a low-dose “starter” regimen, or if the physician prescribes a higher-dose “maintenance,” there is no monetary motivation to rush through the process.
The physician will consult with the patient every 90 days.
Off-Ramp and Non-Responder Protocols
Enhance.MD does not publish a formal tapering protocol or a documented maintenance-only membership for patients who have reached their goal weight.
The subscription continues month-to-month until it’s canceled. For patients who stop responding to semaglutide, the tirzepatide pathway is available through the Advanced tier, and the 90-day provider consultation cadence also creates a natural point to raise that conversation.
There’s no published threshold-triggered switching protocol or weight loss guarantee.
Prior Authorization
Enhance.MD operates as a cash-pay platform. Insurance is not accepted for GLP-1 prescriptions. This makes prior authorization irrelevant.
HSA and FSA funds, however, are accepted.
What People Are Saying
Enhance.MD holds a very positive rating on Trustpilot with 4.9 / 5 stars with nearly 3,000 reviews.
Most of the reviews that are available have focused on the positive aspects of the required lab work as well as being able to communicate directly with a nurse practitioner. Additionally, most reviewers have positively reviewed the flat pricing model.
In essence, Enhance.MD is a great option for those who are looking for a provider that has a requirement for clinical oversight built-in from the start, and a provider relationship that works similar to a true medical partnership (versus a subscription service).
