Andrew Averbach: Dr. Averbach is a highly acclaimed board-certified bariatric surgeon. He has over 30 years of experience as a general surgeon. Over the years, he has performed over 3500 safe and effective weight loss surgeries in Saint Agnes Center for Maryland Bariatrics Surgery.
Dr. Averbach belongs to Moscow, Russia. He earned a medical degree from the N. Pirogov State Medical School and completed his surgical research at the Hertzen Cancer Research Institute. He immigrated to the USA in 1992 and joined as the Gastro-Intestinal Clinical Research Fellow at the Washington Cancer Institute, Washington Hospital Center.
Years of extensive training in both general, as well as bariatric surgery, have helped Dr. Averbach in building the Saint Agnes Bariatric facility into a Center of Excellence that the ASMBS/ACS Bariatric Credentialing Network recognizes.

Isma Hamdallah: Dr. Handallah is an experienced bariatric surgeon. He earned a medical degree at the Jordan University of Science and Technology School of Medicine. He belongs to Amman in Jordan. He was a surgical resident in the United Kingdom before finishing his general surgery residency program at Saint Agnes Hospital in 2010. Subsequently, he has titled the General Surgery Chief Resident.
Dr. Hamadallah is a fellow of the University of California, Davis, where he completed his training in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery in 2011. He is also a board-certified surgeon from the American Board of Surgery and the Jordan Board of Surgery. He earned a fellowship from the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and the general Medical Council of London, UK.
Dr. Hamdallah is practicing general, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery in Baltimore for more than 10 years. He specializes in minimally invasive surgeries like reflux surgeries, bariatric procedures, and hernia repairs.
Catriona Swift: Dr. Swift is a D.O., fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon and specialist to join the Maryland Bariatrics team in September 2021. She is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine who has earned a degree at Still University College, Kirksville, MO, back in 2021. She also complete her residency in general surgery at the Genesis Regional Medical Center, Grand Blank, MI in 2017. She practiced general surgery from 2017 to 2020. Bariatric Procedures at Maryland Bariatrics
At the Maryland Bariatric Center, board-certified bariatric surgeons perform the following procedures:
- Roux-end-Y Gastric Bypass: Gastric bypass surgery is a gold standard weight loss surgery. It is the second most frequently performed weight loss procedure worldwide. The surgery is restrictive, which leads to malabsorption of components that lead to weight loss.
- Sleeve Gastrectomy: Also called Gastric or Vertical Sleeve, the procedure is performed by eliminating 80% of the stomach. The 20% that remains becomes a slender pouch, which looks like a sleeve or tube. The pouch stores a lesser amount of food and keeps hunger at a bay.
