Toby Broussard, MD, and Gregory Walton, MD, launched the Weight Wise Bariatric Program in the Oklahoma City metroplex more than 13 years ago with the help of their colleagues. Dr. Broussard and Walton have conducted more than 6500 weight loss surgeries, including laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic modified duodenal switch, weight loss surgery revisional procedures, and adjustable gastric band treatments, in addition to other procedures.
Procedures followed at the Weight Wise Bariatric Program
Gastric Sleeve
In a Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG), about 70 to 80 percent of the stomach is removed. Tube-like or “sleeve-like” in form, the stomach resembles that of a hot dog. Hormonal changes that diminish appetite can be caused by this technique, which is extremely successful. In roughly a year, the tiny tube of the stomach restricts food intake because of the hormonal imbalance.
Gastric Bypass Surgery
Coined as the “Gold Standard” weight loss surgery is the Laparoscopic Roux en Y Gastric Bypass procedure. In spite of its lack of popularity, it has been used for more than 40 years. Because of the vast quantity of information accessible, it has remained the “Gold Standard.”
Duodenal Switch Surgery
Duodenal Switch is a well-known and aggressive mal-absorptive operation that has been modified by the “single anastomosis DS” or SADS procedure. Vitamin shortages, diarrhea, and malnutrition are reduced while great weight reduction and Type II Diabetes resolution are maintained.
Lap Band Surgery Oklahoma
Known as the Lap-Band, the AGB is a gastric band that wraps around the upper stomach and may be adjusted to fit the patient’s specific needs. In 2001, the FDA authorized it as a therapy for obesity. Tubes are then inserted into the abdomen skin, and the band is linked to one of these ports.
Team
Lead Surgeons at the Weight Wise Bariatric Program
Dr. Toby Broussard is from Morgan City, Louisiana. He earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He then went on to become a doctor at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport.
Dr. Broussard completed his surgical residency at Caraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He returned to Louisiana the next year and built a successful private practice, which he ran for thirteen years.
His interest in bariatric surgery grew during his residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center and continued when he opened his own practice. Dr. Broussard didn’t have to consider long before settling on bariatric surgery as his specialty. As a doctor, he enjoys helping people improve their health and quality of life. WeightWise was an easy decision for him because it allowed him to follow his medical passion.
Dr. Walton studied pre-med at Oklahoma State University. He was seriously injured in an oil field sabotage during his junior summer. He needed 20 procedures, two months in the hospital, and a year of physical therapy to heal 75% of his body. Despite a 3% chance of surviving, he returned to college and began medical school in one year.
This tragedy inspired Dr. Walton’s desire to help others in similar situations. Dr. Walton graduated from the University Of Oklahoma College Of Medicine in 1989.
