Meet The Team

Scott Bovard, MD, FACS, FASMBS: Dr. Scott Bovard is a recognized and board-certified bariatric surgeon in WakeMed. Native to Colorado, Dr. Bovard went on to complete an undergraduate degree at the Colorado State University. He joined the US Air Force for a brief stint, which led him to travel the world. He went to Ross University School of Medicine to complete his medical school. During the same time, he learned about bariatric surgery from a forerunner of modern weight loss surgery, Dr. Merlin Ottoman. This experience set the new course of life and Dr. Bovard did his residency program at the St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, which is also an affiliate hospital of Johns Hopkins University and home to the most prolific and successful college of Maryland.

Dr. Bovard is an acclaimed board-certified bariatric surgeon from the American Board of Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is a member of the North Carolina Medical Society. At present, he is also pursuing a nationally recognized specialty in medical weight loss.

Jon Bruce: Dr. Bruce is a board-certified bariatric surgeon by the American Board of Surgery. He is a graduate of the Summa Cum Laude where he did a double major in Biology and Chemistry at Niagara University. He also minored in US Military Services and went to serve as the Battalion Commander of the ROTC. Dr. Bruce received the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross and George Catlett Marshall Award for his outstanding contribution and leadership in the ROTC.

Thereafter, he received a medical degree at the State University of New York, Buffalo, and he complete his surgery residency from there as well. Dr. Bruce also received the Schenck Award to felicitate him as the best resident teacher. He also served as the Chief Resident in the final year. He has received post-graduate training in technically advanced laparoscopy, gastric surgery, and colon surgery at the University Institute Louis Pasteur France and Hamburg, Germany.

Dr. Bruce joined WakeMed in 2018 as a Bariatric Specialist.

Ann Chung: Dr. Ann Chung is a general surgeon. She completed a fellowship program in minimally invasive advanced gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. She is a board-certified surgeon with clinical interests mainly in minimally invasive surgery like laparoscopic, endoscopic, reflux surgery, DaVinci robotic surgery, bariatric surgery, hiatal hernia, large and small inessential disease, solid organ pathology, and biliary disease.

Dr. Ann Chung is a graduate of the Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed her training and residency in general surgery at East Carolina University. She was the administrative chief resident there. She also completed a fellowship program at the University of North Carolina with a specialization in minimally invasive surgery in bariatric and foregut surgery. She shared vast knowledge on various GI topics, such as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, biliary disease, and hiatal hernia.

Paul Enchos: Dr. Paul Enchos is the founding partner of Bariatric Specialists of North Carolina, now WakeMed Bariatric Surgery and Medical Weight Loss Family. He is a board-certified general surgeon from the American Board of Surgery with a specialization in Bariatrics. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

 

Dr. Enchos went to the University of South Alabama College of Medicine for a medical degree. He completes surgery residency at the University of South Alabama Medical Center, focusing primarily on bariatric surgery. He also received additional post-graduate training in advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, Carolinas Medical Center, The University of Chicago, Duke University Medical Center, and the Medical College of Virginia.
