Bariatric Procedures at Live By Losing

  • Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RNY): RNY is a common gastric bypass procedure. It is an irreversible surgery. In this surgery, the approach is to reduce food intake and nutrient absorption. It is an invasive surgery in which the surgeon makes an incision in the stomach and seals a part of it to create a pouch. A walnut-sized pouch can hold very little food whereas a normal stomach can hold up to 3 pints. Thereafter, the surgeon makes an incision in the small intestine to bypass it directly. Then, food travels to the small stomach pouch and into the small intestine attached to it. Gradually, patients start losing weight due to this bypass.
  • Sleeve Gastrectomy: In this procedure, 80% of a patient’s stomach is eliminated, leaving only a tube-like, long pouch. As the stomach becomes smaller, it cannot hold more food. Moreover, it also produces a lesser amount of ghrelin, an appetite-regulating hormone. As a result, the habit of eating or hunger reduces significantly. The key benefits of the procedure include rapid weight loss, no rerouting or bypassing of the small intestine, and a safer procedure.
  • Duodenal Switch: In this procedure, a small pouch is created inside the stomach and the lower part of the intestine is connected to the duodenum close to the stomach while bypassing the intestine. The procedure also limits your food intake and nutrient absorption.
  • LAP-BAND Surgery: Laparoscopic gastric banding or LAP-BAND surgery is also an effective weight loss treatment. The surgery involves placing a silicone band around the stomach, the upper part, to create a pouch for holding food. This band restricts the food intake to make you feel fuller even after eating a very limited amount of food.

At Live By Losing, Dr. Green performs all the major bariatric procedures and ensures that patients recover faster, feel better, and embrace their new life.
