ShedRX, which is now operating simply as Shed, does one thing that almost nobody else in the GLP-1 telehealth space does: it gives needle-averse patients both genuine and clinically viable alternatives without charging them extra for the privilege.
Most platforms treat injections as the only real option and mention oral drops as an afterthought. Shed, in contrast, built an entire delivery format strategy around the reality that a lot of people genuinely will not stick with treatment if sticking with it requires putting a needle in their stomach every week.
What Is Shed and How Does It Work?
The Arizona based telemedicine firm “Shed” has been operating since 2022. It currently offers services across the entire United States.
The patient completes an on-line medical history survey. In almost all U.S. states, after the completion of this survey a licensed healthcare professional will review it for approval of an asynchronous (not real time) prescription. There are some states where the patient may need to have a video conference with a healthcare professional as part of their initial evaluation.
Once approved, the prescribed medication is sent via overnight shipping from one of its many partnering pharmacies and delivered to the patient’s home, generally within five to ten working days.
Patients cannot cancel service until they have committed to at least a two month period of service, and patients who are wishing to cancel service will need to submit their request no later than 72 hours prior to when they would normally receive their monthly bill.
GLP-1 Product Offerings
The format variety is Shed’s clearest competitive advantage. Semaglutide compounded form can be ordered as weekly injection (vial), daily sublingually (liquid) or daily dissolved orally as a tablet.
Tirzepatide compounded form also exists as weekly injections and oral drops. And for customers that prefer to purchase FDA approved branded products Wegovy and Zepbound exist. However, the monthly price of these will include an additional $99 membership fee beyond the cost of the drug.
Shed provides options for microdose GLP-1 for customers looking for metabolic wellness support through lower dosing levels of this class of drugs versus aggressive weight loss titration.
Pricing
The starting price of the compounded Semaglutide shots are $199 a month. The compounded Tirzepatide shots have a starting price of $199 a month. The liquid drops cost $229 a month. The lozenges have a starting price of $199 a month.
It is apparent that these “entry” costs represent an initial dose(s) and the costs will go up as the patient’s dose increases. This represents the primary pricing transparency issue associated with Shed, versus their competition in terms of flat rate pricing.
For example patients who achieve a maintenance dose may see monthly prices range from $299 to $499 depending upon both the drug and its form.
Insurance does not pay for compounded products. Insurance can be used to cover brand name Wegovy and Zepbound using the Membership when applicable.
Pharmacy Sourcing
Shed works with a network of both 503A (traditional) and 503B (non-traditional/outsourced) compounding pharmacies.
Some of these compounding pharmacy partners have received Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) accreditation. This combination of working with two different types of compounding pharmacies is an advantage for Shed; it allows them to continue compliance if there will be future changes from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the regulation of compounding.
Cold-Chain Shipping
Shed ships via standard carriers with insulated packaging and gel packs. There is no published guarantee that a specific temperature-controlled transit window exists, and there’s also no documentation of medical-grade cold-chain packaging like Temp-Smart appears in publicly available materials.
Titration and the Pricing Escalation Reality
Since Shed’s pricing increases with dose, there is a financial incentive structure worth naming clearly.
Plain and simple, moving from a starter dose to a maintenance dose costs more money. This is different from the flat-rate model at Shed’s competitors, and it means patients who have side effects at lower doses and need to stay there longer pay less, while patients who progress quickly to higher doses pay more.
Neither is inherently wrong, but this pricing model definitely creates a different clinical conversation than a flat-rate platform does.
The Weight Loss Guarantee: Shed’s Real Differentiator
The only guarantee in the medical weight loss industry for a minimum amount of weight loss (10%) within a specific time frame (nine months) is from Shed. If a patient loses less than 10% of their initial body weight during those nine months they will receive a full refund.
This type of commitment is extremely unique in the field; most GLP-1 based telemedicine programs do not offer any guarantees. In essence, the existence of this “weight-loss” guarantee demonstrates that Shed has confidence in their model and financial backing to support it.
What People Are Saying
Shed currently has a 4.6 / 5 rating on TrustPilot based on fewer than 900 reviews, which is less reviews than many other companies in the industry. The company receives generally favorable reviews as far as customer service response time, along with an easy-to-navigate and enjoyable on-boarding process. The main complaints about Shed revolve around the commitment (2 months), price increases that occur when using larger quantities, and intermittent shipping delays experienced during times of increased demand.
Overall, however, Shed is a good option for patients who are looking for a flexible medication format, a cash-based payment structure, a guaranteed result based on their use of the product, and access to coach support on top of the products.
