Meet The Team

Ariel Ortiz, MD, FACS, FASMBS: Dr. Ariel Ortiz is the Medical Director/Director of Bariatric Surgery at the OCC. He is a double board-certified bariatric surgeon and a specialist in Bariatric Surgery, with more than 20 years of experience in weight loss procedures. He also holds 2 professional licenses – General Medical License and General Surgery License.

Dr. Ortiz completed his pre-medical education from Preparatoria Federal Lazaro Cardenas, Tjuana, Medico. He completed the General Surgery Residency program at the Hospital IMSS Clinica No. 20, La Mesa Tijuana, Mexico. Subsequently, he earned a medical degree Summa cum Laude at the A.H. Robins Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Facultad de Medicina. He did a Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship and Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at Hospital No. 20 IMSS. He also completed extensive training in bariatric surgery and a certification in Bariatric Surgery from the Social Security Institute at Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico Hospital Angeles del Pedregal Mexico.

He was designated at the SRC Surgeon of Excellence in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. His latest collaboration introduced the World’s First Swallowable Gastric Balloon for Non-surgical Weight Loss. Dr. Ariel Ortiz is a leading bariatric surgeon practicing in Tijuana, Mexico.

Arturoz Martinez, MD: Dr. Martinez is a recognized general surgeon with 20 years of experience in weight loss procedures. He is one of the board-certified surgeons by the Mexican Council of General Surgery and the Mexican College of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. He is also the Assistant Professor of General Surgery at the Medical Faculty Autonomous University of Baja California.

He completed Obesity and Lapband Training at the Grupo Laparoscopic de Baja California. He also did Advanced Laparoscopic Training at the Ramon y Cajal Hospital. He did his Fellowship in Laparoscopy Surgery at the Hospital General de Zona. He also completed a General Surgery Residency program at the Centro Medico Nacional De Especialidades. He completed medical studies at the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, medical Faculty.

Dr. Martimez is a postgraduate in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery from the Ramon y Cajal Hospital, Madrid, in Spain.

Marcos Castaneda, MD: Dr. Castaneda is closely associated with weight loss treatments at the OCC. He implemented the first-ever bariatric surgery procedure in a government hospital in Mexico City. He has performed over 600 weight loss surgeries in 3 years of his practice.

He received his medical degree from the Benemerita Autonomous University of Puebla, 1997, in General Medicine. He also completed a residency program at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in General Surgery. He did medical and surgical training from the GastroObeso Center, Sao Paulo, in Brazil.

Santiago Horgan, MD, FACS, FASMBS: Dr. Horgan is an internationally acclaimed expert bariatric surgeon. He specializes in robot-assisted surgical techniques. He is also trained in Lap-Band Gastric Banding and skilled in Da Vinci Surgical System.

Dr. Horgan received a medical degree from the Buenos Aires University School of Medicine, Argentina. He did a fellowship from the University Of Washington School Of Medicine, Seattle, WA. He completed his residency at the University of Buenos Aires, School of Medicine, Argentina. Castle Connolly Medicine Ltd rewarded him with the title of America’s Top Doctors in 2005.
