Team

Michael A. Snyder, MD: Michael Snyder, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at Rose Medical Center. He is also the Founder and Director of the Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery Foundation, bringing the best regional bariatric surgeons to work together with him throughout the regional HCA system. He has been doing bariatric surgery since 2002 and has performed more than 8,000 bariatric surgical procedures. He maintains a volume of 400-500 cases per year. Up to 20% of his surgical volume is made up of bariatric surgery revisions, to ensure patients continue to see the most effective bariatric surgery results. His program is a destination location for revisional surgery. He also is the Director of the Adolescent Bariatric Surgical Program at the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.

Dr. Snyder’s passion for bariatric surgery is based on his knowledge that morbid obesity is one of the vastly under-treated diseases, affecting not just health but quality and length of life. He is committed to using science and state-of-the-art technologies, via an integrated, team-based approach, to give his patients hope and results. Dr. Snyder performs all of the bariatric surgical procedures and is the only surgeon in the region performing the Mini-Gastric Bypass/One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (MGB/OAGB). For all his surgeries, he uses minimally-invasive approaches, both advanced laparoscopic and robotic.

Matthew A. Metz, MD: Matthew Metz, MD, FACS, is a board-certified, Cleveland Clinic-trained bariatric surgeon. Dr. Metz has performed thousands of bariatric surgeries and was the first in Denver and the Rocky Mountain region to offer the laparoscopic loop duodenal switch.

Dr. Metz earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed a residency at the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital. He went on to complete a bariatric surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, one of the most well-known, minimally-invasive bariatric surgery fellowships in the country. Since arriving in Denver more than a decade ago, he has performed thousands of cases, including laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, single-incision laparoscopic procedures (SILS), bariatric revisions, advanced endoscopic cases, and laparoscopic loop duodenal switch procedures.

Frank H. Chae, MD: Frank Chae, MD, is the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, CO, and has more than two decades of experience in weight-loss surgery, performing well over 6,000 surgeries in his time. A pioneer in the field of bariatric surgery, Dr. Chae was among the first in Denver and the Rocky Mountain region to offer laparoscopic (minimally invasive, camera-assisted) bariatric surgery and Lap-Band surgery in the 1990s.

Dr. Chae also offers expert gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding (Lap-Band and Realize Band), gastric sleeve, gastric plication, and robotic bariatric surgery. John S. Weaver, MD: John Weaver, MD, FACS, FASMBS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained, bariatric, and advanced laparoscopic surgeon with expertise in weight-loss surgery and acid reflux treatment. His special interests include laparoscopic/robotic, minimally invasive surgical approaches to obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, the Linx procedure, esophageal dysmotility disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, and hernia repair.

Dr. Weaver is one of the few surgical specialists in the field of robotic bariatric surgery and remains on the cutting edge of advanced surgical procedures. He strives to decrease postoperative pain and facilitate a quicker return to work and activities through minimally invasive procedures.
